Last night (11/4/24), AEI hosted a first-year apprenticeship class on “How to Properly Bend Conduit” led by our very own Jr Project Manager, Joseph Elliott. In addition to his full-time role at AEI, Joseph teaches E1C and E1D for NEFBA (Northeast Florida Builders Association). He led his EIC class instruction in our AEI warehouse where he was able to provide hands on instruction. Each apprentice was given individual one-on-one training to obtain actual physical practice learning such a fundamental task in becoming an electrician. They worked with the most used sizes in our field; ½” and ¾” EMT. He taught them valuable techniques on how to bend box offsets, offsets, 90-degree bends and four-point saddles, which are the most used bends within the industry as well. Most importantly, all students were taught how to safety and properly handle and care for the necessary tools used for this application. Safety is a top priority at AEI, so we always teach this from the start to assure it becomes second nature in their day-to-day practice to protect themselves from injuries and or potential damage to any tools or materials. By the end of the class, each student was able to demonstrate proper methods when faced with bending conduit around the potential obstacles and reach the goal. Continued practice is required to perfect these techniques but overall, it was a great start to this subject.
“I put a lot of my heart into being an instructor. It is a good feeling being able to pass down my knowledge and field experience to the younger generations of upcoming electricians”, said Joseph.
On behalf of the AEI team, I know we are always happy to help folks just starting their career in the industry and teach them the seasoned skills we have learned to better perfect our craft.
